Post by Christopher AdamsPost by Patrick BaldwinSo, I saw Scion in my FLGS yesterday. Anyone got
it? What do you think?
I like it. The premise is cool, the system is interesting - and, actually, I've
been interested in the Exalted system for a while, I just can't stand the
artwork in those books - and there's certainly a lot you can do in terms of
stories.
Yeah, the impression I got from Scion was "Exalted: The Modern Ages."
That's not a bad thing.
And FWIW I'm not a huge fan of the 2e art direction either, though as
always I love the works of Melissa Uran.
Post by Christopher AdamsI don't have any real criticisms - though, fair warning, you get a forty-page
story about the iconic Scion of Thor, Eric Donner, and his first adventure
instead of a setting chapter. I'm not bothered by revealing details of how
everything works that way, but some people find it annoying.
Also bear in mind that some of the iconic characters... well... SUCK.
Eric Donner isn't so bad, but one of them is a male scion of Aphrodite
who's about as interesting and deep as Paris Hilton. "Yes, I'm a child
of a GOD. What do I do to live up to my high birth? I spend every
evening snorting cocaine off of the asses of club kids."
And one of them is a scion of Horus named- get this- "Horace
Farrow" ("Horus Pharaoh"). Oooh, cunning secret identity! I'll never
figure that one out! That's almost as subtle as the Shadowrun
character Angel Blayze, who ran under the street name of "Blayzing
Angel!"
Then again, maybe the writers of Scion just didn't want to out-cool
the PCs...
